During the 2024 IIHF World Championship, Canadian defenseman Bowen Byram slashed Finnish forward Jesse Puljujarvi in the groin and has now been suspended for his actions.

Yesterday, Bowen Byram made headlines for all of the wrong reasons as he slashed Jesse Puljujarvi in the groin.

Today, it was announced that Byram would receive a one-game suspension for his classless slash.

Canada's Bowen Byram has been suspended 1 game for his slash on Finland forward Jesse Puljujärvi.

Here is the IIHF's official ruling:

The Championship Disciplinary Panel determined the Player swung his stick into the groin area of FIN #13, with a degree of force which could have endangered FIN #13, therefore violated Official Playing Rule 61 (Slashing). Additionally, it was considered that the level of force used by the Player while not looking in the direction of where he was swinging his stick, heightens the level of recklessness displayed by the Player.

Byram will now be forced to sit one game for Team Canada and is expected to make a major impact when he returns for the potential medal games.
