The rumor is that the Bruins had a deal in place that would have sent Ullmark to the Kings. We do not know what the trade could have been, but one piece was reportedly Pierre-Luc Dubois. However, we may never know the truth as the trade fell through. Theoretically, this could be because Ullmark used his trade protection to deny the deal. When he was asked about these rumors today, the goaltender avoided answering the question directly.
This response could be taken a number of ways, but many will think that the trade was very real. Ullmark probably does not want to say so because it would damage his relationship with the Bruins. Avoiding the question protects himself and his team.
That being said, the Bruins may have made the right move in not trading Ullmark, even it was the goalie himself who had to step in. He made a season-high 38 saves this afternoon as the Bruins trounced the Penguins 5-1.
The performance included a save against newest Penguin Michael Bunting, who got a great chance to score on a breakaway.
On the season, Ullmark has a 17-7-7 record, a 2.77 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage. These numbers are a far cry from his career year last season, but still well above average as scoring is up around the league this year. The Bruins likely will not regret trading him once the playoffs come around.
As seen on Linus Ullmark responds to rumors of a blocked trade.
