One intriguing storyline of the NHL pre-season has been the battle between the Spittin Chiclets podcast and Don Sweeney, and today, we saw even more comments.
A few weeks ago, Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast revealed a report about Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins, revealing that the team's offer to the goaltender was an insulting one. Somehow, that comment got back to GM Don Sweeney, who didn't take too kindly to it, and immediately fired back at the podcast with a terrible insult, calling it the 'Spittin up on yourself podcast'.
Unsurprisingly, both former NHLers have taken their turns firing back at Sweeney, with this time it being Whitney, as he addressed the situation on the latest episode of the show.
«I stand by what I was told. He's gonna call me a liar, I think he's fudging a little bit Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle. But I knew the offer and it was a lowball, slap in the face offer and this is a players podcast».
It's hard to tell who is telling the truth in this situation, but given that it's the word of multiple people against just one, it appears that Sweeney may simply be trying to save face after his offer to Swayman, which clearly wasn't good enough to be accepted as the star goaltender remains unsigned with the season just weeks away. Given the situation, it's unclear when the 25-year old goaltender will be back with the Bruins, but after all of the hard feelings between he and the team from arbitration a year ago and now this, it's safe to say that we haven't heard the end of this fued.
