The Calgary Flames have made some big moves in the past 12 months that signal a major rebuild is coming, but for some reason, their front office can't seem to get out of the way.

Calgary Flames ownership make a terrible decision on a trade

With the team already moving the likes of Tyler Toffoli, Nikita Zadorov, Elias Lindholm and Chris Tanev, the Flames are clearly looking for a big re-tool, making this report even more confusing.

According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli, the team had a deal in place with the New Jersey Devils to send star goaltender Jacob Markstrom East, but unfortunately, the ownership group vetoed the deal.

Seravalli saying he believes Flames and Devils had agreed to a trade in principle for Markstrom and then Don Maloney on behalf of ownership nixed the trade.

Will this team dive head first into a rebuild?

The rebuild word is almost forbidden in Calgary, with ownership believing that a Wild Card spot is more valuable than long-term, sustained success, and that has reared its ugly head again.

Still, the New Jersey Devils remain interested in Markstrom, and are now reportedly interested in not asking for salary retention, and with four days to go until the trade deadline, there's still a fantastic possibility that the star goaltender is headed to Jersey.
