Avalanche Ask For Formal Review To Extend MacKinnon's Point Streak
Nathan MacKinnon's historic home point streak came to an end last night when the Rangers won 3-2 in a shootout. However, the Avalanche believe he should have been credited for an assist so they asked the NHL to review a play.
The play came in the 3rd period with the Avalanche down 2-1. They managed to get some sustained pressure in the offensive zone before a puck rattled around the crease, eventually sneaking past Igor Shesterkin and crossing the goal line to tie the game. Unfortunately, the goal would not be enough for the Avalanche as the Rangers would eventually win the game in a shootout.
After the game, the Avalanche requested that the NHL take a second look at the play to determine of MacKinnon deserved an assist. Unfortunately though, it appears as though his point streak has officially ended as the NHL responded, indicating that the decision on the play is final.
The NHL's hockey operations department is not going to make a change to the official scoring from the #Avs second goal last night, @DPostSports has learned.
Nathan MacKinnon's home point streak is officially over now, for sure.
That being said, MacKinnon still deserves a ton of credit for his play at home this year. The 35-game point streak is still second all-time, only behind Wayne Gretzky, who recorded a 40-point home point streak.
Nathan MacKinnon's 35-game home point streak and 19-game overall point streak have come to an end.
What an unreal stretch 👏
However, not everyone in the hockey world is ready for the point streak to end. The play has certainly drawn a lot of attention and sparked many debates. Former NHL goaltender Devan Dubnyk still believes MacKinnon should have been credited with an assist on the play.

@Rupper17 isn't so sure.
Should MacKinnon have gotten a point on this goal and extended his streak?
