The Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets faced off tonight in a matchup of Western Conference contenders. The Stars came into Winnipeg hoping to stop the Jets who have been rolling and only lost one game this season.
If the Stars were going to take down the Winnipeg Jets they would need a huge night from stud goalie Jake Oettinger.
Unfortunately, Jake Oettinger did not have his game sharp tonight and ended up giving up 4 goals on 15 total shots.
After giving up the fourth goal of the game Dallas Stars head coach Peter DeBoer decided he'd seen enough and pulled Jake Oettinger.
As Jake Oettinger left the ice he faced chants of "U.S.backup" from the Winnipeg crowd.
The chant refers to the fact that Jake Oettinger is expected to be the backup goalie to Jets star Connor Hellebuyck when Team USA gets together for the 4 Nations Face-Off Tournament.
After being pulled the Dallas Stars wouldn't be able to muster up much of a comeback. They would score one goal and eventually fall to the Winnipeg Jets who continue their historic start to the season.
Despite his struggles tonight, Jake Oettinger is still one of the best goaltenders in the NHL.
In 8 appearances before tonight, Jake Oettinger had a 2.26 goals against average and a 0.922 save percentage on the season for the Dallas Stars.
The Dallas Stars will need him to bounce back and get his game back in form. If he continues to struggle the Stars could end up in major trouble.
