Connor McDavid had a terrible excuse for losing game one of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers last night in his post-game comments.

After nearly ten years in the NHL, Connor McDavid is finally close to achieving his dream of winning a Stanley Cup. Like most hockey players, he has been dreaming about lifting the trophy all his life.

Now that he's so close, one could have guessed that losing a game would have made him see things clearer and bring him back to reality.

However, in the first part of his press conference, he blamed the "hockey gods" for the Oilers' loss:

"Maybe it was the hockey gods getting us back for that Game 6," said McDavid, briefly forcing a smile. "You know where we probably didn't deserve to win."

"Tonight maybe we deserved at least one goal, maybe two goals, and we don't find a way to get them."

The reality is that they faced a hot goalie. Sergei Bobrovsky had his second shutout of the playoffs and made a few incredible saves to shut down the Oilers:

Later, he added that he believes his team will be able to bounce back, as any good leader would say:

"I know this group will stick with it, bounce back, that's what we take a lot of pride in doing. We'll gear up for a big one on Monday."

The Oilers will have an opportunity to tie the series before heading back to Edmonton, and they'll want to capitalize on it.
