Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid spoke to reporters today while he serves his three-game suspension.

The Edmonton Oilers went without their captain yesterday as they lost 3-2 to the Washington Capitals.

It was the first game of a three-game suspension Connor McDavid received for cross-checking Canucks forward Connor Garland.

Now, the Oilers will remain without McDavid as they take on the Vancouver Canucks again tomorrow and the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

The captain will return to the lineup on Monday when the Oilers host the Seattle Kraken.

In the meantime, McDavid continues to practice and hang around the team.

He spoke to reporters today saying he would much rather be on the ice than at home, and wants to stay with the team so he can support them as much as possible off the ice.

"I love to play but you know, what can I do? I'd rather be on the ice than sitting at home. It's not like I can get a week away in Cabo. I'm here, I want to support the team, and I want to get myself ready to roll when it is time six games before the break."

McDavid also spoke his mind about the suspension, saying the whole thing could have been avoided if the referees simply blew the whistle before things got out of hand.

"The league made their decision. I don't necessarily agree with it. I'm not saying there shouldn't have been any penalty or suspension or anything like that, I just thought it was a little bit harsh. There were lots of infractions going on and maybe the whole thing could have been avoided with a blow of the whistle."

It is hard not to see McDavid's argument here. Obviously, Garland was holding McDavid prior to the cross-check and he did not even try to hide it.

That being said, the Oilers captain needs to control himself at critical moments in games. Hopefully, this will not happen again.
