It seems to be just a matter of time until Patrik Laine is traded by the Columbus Blue Jackets, and a recent moves seems to suggest Montreal are interested.
With the Columbus Blue Jackets looking to lean into their youth moving forward, it comes as no surprise that 26-year old star Patrik Laine wants out, as he has requested a trade from the team. Ever since that became official, the Montreal Canadiens have been linked to the star forward, and one reporter has suggested their latest hire could lead to a blockbuster deal.
If there is anyone who can provide inside information to Canadians regarding Laine, it is Pascal Vincent.
Before leading Laine in Columbus, Vincent worked for a long time in the Jets organization.
The move in question is the hire of Pascal Vincent as the Head Coach of the Laval Rockets in the AHL, as he was Laine's Head Coach with the Columbus Blue Jackets for just one year in 2023/24. That knowledge of Laine as a player and a person will give Kent Hughes the inside knowledge he needs to make a huge decision, and after tallying 26 and 22 goals in his last two seasons (56 and 55 games), he could be a good fit.
The Canadiens have been rebuilding for years, but eventually they need to take a step forward, and if it doesn't sacrifice a top prospect, this is a deal that makes sense for both parties, so expect to hear more of this going forward.
