Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine recently shared a funny story about a moment with Jake McCabe.

Patrick Laine was recently a guest on the Spittin Chiclets podcast where he shared a story about the hardest hit he has ever received in the NHL.

The story he shared comes from his rookie season with the Winnipeg Jets.

It came in a game against the Buffalo Sabres and involved Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe, who was playing for Buffalo at that time.

Laine was carrying the puck through the neutral zone when McCabe stepped into him, knocking him unconscious with the hit.

Here is Laine's recollection of that play.

"It was my first year, we played in Buffalo, Jake McCabe just absolutely put me in a body bag. I remember getting a backhand pass... and my next memory is waking up in the room. In between? Nothing, I have no clue what happened. That was kind of a 'Welcome to the league little kid' moment."

A fan of the show was kind enough to share a clip of the hit to remind us what it was like since it was so long ago.

It is almost hard to believe that this play happened in 2016, nearly a decade ago.

Since then, Laine has had a rather dramatic career. He's been traded twice, suffered serious injuries, and even entered the NHL's Player Assistance Program.

Earlier this season, Laine opened up about his mental health struggles, noting that he nearly quit hockey because of it.

Luckily, the sniper powered through and is back scoring like his usual self.

Through just 21 games this season he already has 12 goals, including 10 on the powerplay.

Stay tuned to see how many tallies Laine can secure this season.
