Penguins place 27-year-old defenseman Ryan Shea on waivers
The Pittsburgh Penguins were officially eliminated from the playoffs after the Capitals beat the Flyers Tuesday night. Now the team is preparing for next season, starting by putting Ryan Shea on waivers.
Shea was a 4th round draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks back in 2015. Since then he has developed reasonably well, but does not figure to be a long-term NHL player. He got in 31 games with the Penguins this year, including his first career game. He scored a single goal with no helpers all season.

This move likely means that Shea will return to the AHL next season where he will spend most, if not all, the season. He did perform reasonably well defensively, but it seems that the Penguins will look elsewhere to fill out their blueline next season.
