One of those names is none other than Canadiens blueliner David Savard. The 33-year-old still has another year left on his deal after this one, coming with a 3.5 million dollar cap hit. According to David Pagnotta, the Canadiens are receiving interest in him, and they are willing to part with the veteran for the right price.
For the Leafs, Savard would fill a need in that he is a right shot defenseman. Currently, the team only has one proper right shot blueliner with Timothy Liljegren. However, Savard is not the only player the Leafs are looking at.
Pagnotta has also linked the team to several other blueliners across the league. In addition to Savard, he also believes the team has explored options including Matt Dumba, who also shoots right. However, the team is not dead set on a right handed blueliner as Brad Treliving has also reportedly inquired about a few lefties, including Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro.
"The Leafs are believed to have varying degrees of interest in such defencemen as David Savard of the Montreal Canadiens, Matt Dumba of the Arizona Coyotes, Colton Parayko of the St. Louis Blues, Mario Ferraro of the San Jose Sharks and Joel Edmundson of the Washington Capitals, among others."
This lines up with previous reports that have linked Ferraro to the Leafs.
However, the Leafs are still hoping for a right handed shot on the back end. As such, the team may be more likely to choose one of the other options available. Regardless though, it will be an active trade deadline for Bad Treliving and the Toronto Maple Leafs. Be sure to stay tuned to see what the team does in the coming week.
