A new exchange on social media has revealed that a former NHL referee has a bias toward the Toronto Maple Leafs. The exchange comes as part of a heated debate about a recent play in the Maple Leafs game.

Former Referee Comments On Controversial Call Against Maple Leafs

Last night the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs faced off. Late in the game Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe came flying in and landed a big hit on Maple Leafs defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin.

The hit caused a ton of controversy many around the league believe that Rempe should face discipline for the hit. One of those people is NHL reporter Nick Alberga. Alberga argued that Rempe laid a dirty hit. However, former NHL referee Tim Peel came to Rempe's defense to disagree.

Alberga: Leaving your feet to deliver a hit when you're 6'8" is a vibe

Peel: Cmon Nick. Take the #LeafsForever sunglasses off!

This led to a major argument between several people including Peel about bias. During the argument Peel revealed that he himself could have a Maple Leafs bias.

In the heat of argument, Peel made fun of a Maple Leafs fan for his biased take. The Maple Leafs fans responded by saying Peel was a terrible referee and had bad takes and he would not understand being a fan. This is where things become interesting because Peel sent a picture of himself in Maple Leafs gear as a kid.

This reveal from Peel shows he could have a potential bias toward the Maple Leafs. While he is no longer an NHL referee it would be fun to look back at Maple Leafs games he refereed throughout his career.
