Shock trade proposal suggests Mitch Marner could end up in Montreal

The Montreal Canadiens are the Toronto Maple Leafs' biggest rival, so could they really land Mitch Marner in what would be a shocking blockbuster.

This off-season has been full of stories for the NHL, but none have captivated the audiences quite like the Mitch Marner trade saga, as the Maple Leafs could potentially part ways with their star winger. Every team from Nashville to Tampa Bay and everywhere in between have been linked with Marner at one point, except for Montreal, but now a social media post has raised eyebrows with exactly that suggestion.

On first thought, the idea of Brad Treliving sending Mitch Marner to Montreal is a ridiculous one, and when you look deeper at a potential trade, it simply doesn't make sense for either party.

Montreal simply aren't ready to compete in the loaded Eastern Conference, so giving up a high value prospect to land one year of Marner before free agency just doesn't make sense. For Toronto, there's no player on the Canadiens roster that would help them win now and equal the value needed for a player like Marner, so it's most likely that this is a post simply to drive engagement to their social media.

Absolutely anything can happen in the NHL however, but for those few Canadiens fans that got their hopes up looking at the post, don't hold your breath to see Mitch Marner head to Montreal.
