New Development on Jonathan Marchessault's Contract Negotiations
There's been a new development on Jonathan Marchessault's contract negotiations with the Golden Knights.
Marchessault's future with the Las Vegas Golden Knights has been openly discussed by his agent, the well-known Pat Brisson,Brisson discussed Marchessault's contract negotiations with the Vegas Golden Knights as the player is set to become a free agent at the end of the current season.
Player agent Pat Brisson sheds light on Jonathan Marchessault's future with the Vegas Golden Knights, in the wake of General Manager Kelly McCrimmon's decision not to discuss contract negotiations.
Kelly McCrimmon, the general manager of the Golden Knights, stated in an interview that he is not discussing contract negotiations for Marchessault or any other players currently. Instead, he puts his energy on the end of the season and the playoffs:
"At this point in the regular season, we are all working to help our club qualify for the playoffs. The status of player contracts is not something we'll comment on, as we continue to keep our focus on the ice."
Pat Brisson, Jonathan Marchessault's agent, revealed that the player doesn't mind waiting. After winning the Conn Smythe trophy and the Stanley Cup last year, Marchessault's performance hasn't declined.
He's currently having the best season of his career and is expected to play a vital role in the playoffs.
More from Brisson:
"He's OK waiting. Of course, you would rather have a deal done. Sometimes the reason you don't have a deal done is because you're not there yet. He's been in Vegas ever since its inception seven years ago. He likes it there, been producing, won the Cup last year, won the Conn Smythe.
"He's having a hell of a season this year. His production is not going down."
"Vegas has been a great place for him. It's been such a mutually beneficial relationship from the beginning. His first wish is to definitely work something out with the Golden Knights."
"We're not concerned. It's a business at the end of the day. We have to look at this way, and we do understand how sometimes these things would go, but we also believe players (who) keep producing, keeping doing well, good things will happen. Hopefully, it will be with the Golden Knights at one point between now and July 1."
It seems clear that Brisson is hopeful to secure a good deal for Marchessault in Vegas. However, with all the recent additions, such as Mantha, Hanifin and Hertl, it won't be easy to manage financially.
Also, there's no doubt that Marchessault will attract interest from other teams across the League, and if he decides to pursue a more lucrative offer, he could find it in another organization.
