After spending the past 11 years in North America, playing for the Washington Capitals, and a nasty departure from the organization that drafted him 26th overall in 2010, Kuznetsov is currently playing in the KHL, in Russia, his home-country.
He recently opened up on one of the biggest storylines in the NHL this season: Ovechkin's hunt to break Wayne Gretzky's goal record.
The 38-year-old veteran is only 41 goals away from tying Gretzky's mark. With two season left on his deal with the Capitals, and his impressive 31-goal tally of last season, everything indicates that he'll be able to achieve that feat.
Kuznetsov also seems to believe he can reach that mark. In an interview reported by Russian Machine Never Breaks, he hopes and thinks that he can do it so that his former teammate will stop suffering:
We can guess that two things can be hard on Ovi right now: how everyone always ask him about that, and the pressure that he puts on hiw own shoulders to make it happen.
With just over a month before the start of the 2024-25 season, fans are eager to see Ovi back on the ice do what he does best: score goals.
