NHL referee forced to retire early after season-ending injury

The surprising announcement came today from TSN announcer Gord Miller, who broke the news on X. He noted that the referee was set to retire this season anyways, but this is obviously not how he wanted his career to end.

Sad news that veteran NHL referee Kevin Pollock has suffered a serious knee injury that will end his season and his career. Kevin was retiring this year but the injury will prevent him from working a «retirement game» where he would have picked the officiating crew and location.

Pollock has been in the league for nearly a quarter of a century, having made his debut in 2000. His last game came On February 19th when the Ducks defeated the Sabres 4-3 in Buffalo. Pollock left the game in the first period after an accidental collision with Sabres forward Jordan Greenway.

Referee Kevin Pollock - already slated to retire at the end of the NHL season - reportedly suffered a career-ending knee injury last month during a game between the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres:

Miller officiated over 1600 regular season NHL games and over 200 playoff games. His presence in the league will be missed.
