It seems more and more likely that the Arizona Coyotes will be in a new city in the very near future. The struggling franchise has had it rough for years, but it looks like their time in the desert has officially come to an end...for now, that is.

Friedman Confirms Arizona's Future

A recent report by Elliotte Friedman confirmed that although the Arizona Coyotes will likely be on the move soon, the NHL doesn't want to abandon that market just yet. It sounds like even if the Coyotes leave, the NHL has plans to bring a team back into Arizona one way or another.

"They are going to expand at some point and I believe too if they leave Arizona eventually they will go back there, they will not leave that market open" - Elliotte Friedman

This is great news for Arizona hockey fans, but not so much for fans in cities still hoping to get an NHL team, such as Houston or Quebec City.

NHL Not Done Expanding

Friedman went on to discuss the increasing chances that the NHL expands again in the next few years. With the Senators having just been sold for a little under $1 billion, an expansion franchise could make the NHL tons of money.

One market that we've heard more and more in recent weeks is Atlanta, which is a city the NHL has already tried twice. While there's debate on whether or not the NHL would like to expand or relocate a franchise to Atlanta, it seems like their interest in the city is very real.

«There's a lot of people out there who really believe the Atlanta thing, especially with TNT being a rights holder, they're based in Atlanta, that's a very real thing». - Elliotte Friedman

It will be an exciting few years for hockey fans throughout North America, especially if your city is one in the running to land a new franchise!
