Kyle Dubas and Auston Matthews always had a good relationship off of the ice. However, this relationship may not have always been completely legal.
The NHLPA announced that they were doing an investigation on Dubas for potentially having alternative motives. If found guilty, Dubas will certainly be blacklisted from the NHL and could potentially be facing jail time.
The reason the NHLPA is investigating Dubas is that him and Matthews have agents who work in the same firm.
This will certainly lead to many lawsuits and many firings if it is found that Dubas is guilty. Potentially even jail time for some of the parties involved.
However, Dubas has a strong case for not being guilty.
To start, Dubass agent Chris Armstrong works in a completely different department than Matthews' agent Judd Moldaver despite both working for Wasserman.
On top of this, Dubas has known Armstrong for years and hired him because they had been such good friends for such a long time. The other hand, Matthews hired Moldaver because he represents some of the finest talent in the league including Connor McDavid.
It is highly unlikely that any form of violation took place but we cannot rule it out. The NHLPA will certainly do their best work on investigating if whether or not Dubas had alternative motives when signing Matthews and working with him throughout his tenure in Toronto.
