In breaking news, the NHL Department of Player Safety has been pointed out as potentially being biased when it comes to suspensions.

Callagher Suspension Drawing Criticism of NHL Player Safety for Bias

After Brendan Gallagher laid one of the dirtiest hits of the season last night, and it was revealed that he wouldn't be getting more than 5 games for the hit, many were furious that the NHL's Department of Player Safety was being inconsistent and biased in its rulings.

A report from Jeff Veillette showed that the amount of suspensions given are not equal across teams, and that Boston and the Leafs are on the top of the list of teams being suspended.

DOPS talk made me curious as to who have been the most suspended teams in the Parros era (17/18 to Pres)

- On-ice suspensions only
- Automatics don't count
- Original rulings, not appeals
- Regular Season + Playoffs

It was immediately pointed out what the potential reasoning for those two teams to be on the top of the list are, that George Parros, head of the Department, used to play for the Montreal Canadiens, and was a physical player himself.

I mean.. BOS and TOR at the top does make you wonder if there is some bias here concerning George Parros.

One of the most glaring examples of this bias was the number of games Jason Spezza got for his hit against the Winnipeg Jets. He received 6 games for a bad hit, but it wasn't nearly as bad as Gallaghers, and he was a first-time offender.

Reminder that Jason Spezza got 6 games for this as a first time offender.

We will see if this type of calling out of the Department of Player Safety will result in any changes in the inconsistencies or not.
