Gary Bettman has been the Commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL) since 1993 and has overseen the league's growth and expansion into new markets. However, he has been a controversial figure in the world of hockey, with some fans and players criticizing his decisions and leadership style. Despite this, many supporters believe that he has always acted in the best interests of the NHL and its fans.
One issue that Bettman has been particularly adamant about is the future of the Arizona Coyotes. The team has struggled financially and on the ice, leading to rumors of relocation to another city. However, Bettman has consistently pushed for the team to remain in Arizona and has been working on a project in Tempe that would provide the Coyotes with a new arena and revitalized fan support.
This project has caused controversy in the area, with some residents and politicians opposing the use of public funds to finance the arena's construction. In one extreme case, vandals defaced the construction site with graffiti and damaged equipment in protest of Bettman's visit for a press conference.
The location that NHL commissioner Gary Bettman was supposed to have a press conference at in Tempe, Arizona was vandalized with VOTE NO' in multiple areas
The cites of Tempe and Phoenix have been at a feud over the #Coyotes proposal to build a new arena in Tempe. The city of Phoenix does not want them doing it, and Tempe has fired back with legal action.
Interesting situation.
