Most people know Kris Draper as the guy who played center for the Detroit Red Wings on their infamous "Grind Line". What most people don't know is that Draper was a member of the Winnipeg Jets before he was traded to Detroit on June 30th, 1993.
But what makes this trade different? Unlike other trades where players are traded for draft picks or other players, Draper was traded for a cash value.
Draper had played 3 seasons in Winnipeg, but he only managed to get into 20 games in that span. In those games he had 3 goals, so the Jets were looking to move on from Draper. The Jets valued Draper so highly that when they traded him to Detroit it was for a whopping return of $1.
I guess it's fair to say that Detroit got their bang for their...buck!
That works out to:
$0.00088 Per Game Played
$0.006 Per Goal
$0.005 Per Assist
$0.00013 Per Penalty Minute
$1.00 Per Selke Trophy
$0.25 Per Stanley Cup
But how can this deal get even sweeter?
Red Wings Legend Darren McCarty has always said that the deal was completed in Canadian Currency giving the Red Wings an even better return on their investment!
