Makar Comments on Involvement In 2018 World Junior Scandal
The investigation of the Team Canada 2018 World Junior incident has come to a head, with criminal charges being laid against 5 of the members of the team including Alex Formenton, Mike McLeod, Cal Foote, Carter Hart, and Dillon Dube.
Cale Makar, who was a member of the Team, was asked about the case during interviews at the All-Star event. While he was likely advised not to comment on it, he opened up about the incident and hockey culture in general, stating that he wasn't involved in the incident.
«I've been kind of straightforward from the start that I wasn't there. But again, I'm just gonna leave it back to the people who are handling obviously the work right now,» Makar stated.
Makar Says the Culture Of Hockey Has Changed But Has A Long Way to Go
Makar went on in the interview to talk about the culture around hockey in general, and how it has changed. He believes it has become a game that is inclusive of everyone, but there is still a long way to go.
«I think we're at a point now where it's very inclusive for everybody, and it should feel that way. And if it doesn't, then we as a league and us as a game aren't doing the correct things to make it feel that way. So, for us, in my mind, I feel like everybody should be accepted, regardless of who you are. And I think that the game has just continued to grow and in that respect, I'm proud of where it's at right now.
«But we definitely still obviously have a long way to go.»
With the court case ongoing, it is likely that a lot more members of the 2018 team will be asked to comment on the case. As the case proceeds, it is likely that more details will be revealed as well.
