According to NHL News Updates, the Colorado Avalanche are trying hard to land the prize trade deadline jewel, J.T. Miller.
If the package starts with Bowen Byram, the Avanache need to be the heavy favourites to land Miller as there are not as many highly touted prospects like Byram available.
While this may seem insane for the Avalanche to trade away a potential young superstar on the back end, the sad/funny thing is, the Avalanche can actually afford to lose him. With superstar Cale Makar, youngster Samuel Girard, reliable Erik Johnson and underrated Devon Toews who currently has 43 points in 45 games, this is a back end that is stacked and can afford to lose this young star.
Not to mention prospects like Barron, Behrens & Helleson who in the next few years will be wanting spots. The Avalanche just cannot afford financially or have the space to fit them all in.
If trading Byram and bringing in Miller gives the Avalanche a chance to win now, then its a gamble they can absolutely take.
