A crazy scene broke out last night during the Marlies game that saw Kyle Clifford jump a Senators player after a dirty spear on the goaltender between periods.

Clifford Jumps Sens Player For Spear During Intermission

It's not every day you get action like this during an AHL game, but last night's Marlies versus Senators game did not disappoint. As the second period ended, Belleville Senators enforcer Boko Imama tried to spark something in his team since they were down 3-0 by spearing Dennis Hildeby as the teams crossed to head to their respective dressing rooms.

The action almost caught everyone off guard, as you can see them react as if they questioned what just happened. Everyone except Kyle Clifford that is, who immediately skated to Imama and jumped him, grabbing the linesman in the process.

The crazy brawl saw most players at least pair up, with a few other than Clifford and Imama throwing a couple of jabs.

Players Could be Facing Additional Punishment for Actions

The biggest question of the altercation is whether or not it counts as leaving the bench since it was between periods and teams were heading to their dressing rooms. The referees obviously thought so, as both Clifford and Imama were given misconducts for leaving the bench.

They could be facing additional punishment as well. Here is what the rules say.

The first player to leave the players' or penalty bench illegally during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation from either or both teams shall be suspended automatically without pay for the next ten (10) regular League and/or Play-off games of his team.

The second player to leave the players' or penalty bench illegally during an altercation or for the purpose of starting an altercation from either or both teams shall be suspended automatically without pay for the next five (5) regular League and/or Play-off games.

We will see what ruling the AHL makes, if any. The Senators and Marlies square up in what will surely be an interesting match on Sunday.
