International Hockey Legend Passes Away At 55
Former Quebec Nordiques draft pick and international hockey veteran Morgan Samuelsson has passed away at the age of 55. One of his former teams the ZSC Lions made the following statement regarding his passing.
"It is shocking news that hit Swiss ice hockey shortly before the start of the season. After a long period of suffering, Morgan Samuelsson lost his fight and his heart stopped beating on Sunday night. Samuelsson passed away at home. Far too early the Swede, who has lived in Switzerland for many years, only turned 55."
"With Samuelsson's death, the world loses not only an ice hockey player with legendary status but also a cheerful and kind-hearted person who would give the shirt off his back for others. Morgan Samuelsson was always an entertaining, yet also deeply insightful conversation partner. When his health deteriorated in recent years, he bore it bravely and fought. Until his heart no longer wanted to beat on Sunday night."
"The ZSC Lions are planning a moment of silence for Morgan Samuelsson during a championship home game.
The entire organization of the ZSC Lions expresses its heartfelt condolences and wishes the relatives much strength!"
Samuelsson Leaves An Impact On European Hockey
Samuelsson's career began in his native country of Sweden with Bodens BK. After a few successful years there he moved on to Lulea, Sodertalje, and AIK during his stint in Sweden. He was drafted in the 6th round of the 1986 NHL Draft. He would unfortunately never suit up for an NHL game in his career.
After his time in Sweden came to an end he headed off to Germany and played 3 seasons there. Finally, he would go to Switzerland where he would spend the last three years of his career.
In his 8 seasons in the SHL in Sweden, he finished with 177 points. In Switzerland, he totaled 132 points. Then in Germany, he had 186 total points. He will be remembered by fans and organizations that he impacted all throughout the world during his successful hockey career.
