Gary Bettman Issues A Ridiculous Memo Regarding Pride Night Upsetting Numerous NHL Teams
Gary Bettman and the NHL has issued a ridiculous statement regarding Pride Night which has left teams and fans confused as to what he is doing.
The NHL's Ridiculous Pride Night Policy
The NHL and Gary Bettman have really screwed themselves with pride night. They were trying to make a policy that would result in as little controversy as possible and all that happened as a result of the policy was more controversy.
The NHL recently issued one of the most confusing statements in recent memory regarding Pride Night.
Ryan S. Clark of ESPN reported the following:
NEWS: The NHL sent an updated memo to teams Thursday clarifying what they can do this season with special initiatives such as Pride Night.
A source told ESPN that several teams sought clarity as the first memo was deemed to be confusing and restrictive.
The NHL's first memo had the following portion which was quite confusing.
"Players shall not be put in the position of having to demonstrate (or where they may be appearing to demonstrate) personal support for any Special Initiatives. A factor that may be considered in this regard includes, for example, whether a Player (or Players) is required to be in close proximity to any groups or individuals visibly or otherwise clearly associated with such Special Initiative(s)"
It truly looks like a kerfuffle of legal talk that merely comes off as discombobulated.
Thankfully, the NHL issued a second memo that was more clear but to issue this first statement that is flat-out disappointing.
Flabbergasted that someone at the NHL typed up that first memo and no one, not even their legal department, was like hey.. maybe we shouldn't straight up green-light discrimination like this.
just when you thought these people couldn't get any worse 😬
