Gary Bettman's Poor Decisions Lead To Nearly 30 People Losing Their Job
NHL teams face hard decisions every season. Due to the salary cap, teams have no choice but to comply with the strict rules.
Gary Bettman failed to do the one thing everyone wanted: raising the cap.
Bad management over the years has led to the currently stagnant cap structure, and teams must follow strict rules.
Teams Forced to Start the Season with Reduced Rosters Because of Gary Bettman
A few teams announced that they are unable to field a lineup of 23 players and had to make significant changes to become cap compliant.
One team can only carry 20 players at the moment, and several rosters have only 21 players right now. In total, 28 people have lost their jobs.
"Due to Gary's triple hard cap salary cap crunch, several NHL teams cannot carry a full 23-man roster. One team is at 20, and several have 21. Overall, 28 NHL jobs lost, 28 players squeezed out of the league."
Incoming Raise in the Cap
The NHL's revenues are slowly growing, and currently, stability of ownership across the League will help increase the salary cap.
It's expected to reach $90 million after the current season, which is significantly more than the $83.5 million teams have right now.
Also, if the NHL gets a 33rd team, revenues will also increase drastically.
