Johnny Gaudreau for years has been a dominant player, but this year he really showed it scoring 40 goals and 115 points in 82 games, which is a career best by 16 points.
It was said best by Jaromir Jagr during his half a season as a Flame:
''Johnny Gaudreau has the talent to lead the league in scoring every season."
Getting a compliment like that by one of the best players to ever play the game is definitely something that should be valued.
Gaudreau is currently a UFA and it does not sound like he is interested in resigning with the Flames, despite them offering him an 8-year deal with an AAV of $9.5 million. So tomorrow as of 12pm EST, Gaudreau will be a free agent and welcome to sign with any team in the NHL, which many teams will be licking their chops at the chance of getting him.
NHL Insider Chris Botta said that the Islanders are very interested in Gaudreau and will be offering him a 7 year deal around $9 million. Which is actually less than the Calgary Flames offered him, but perhaps it's not all about money, perhaps he is interested in playing somewhere other than Western Canada next season.
