Recently a former teammate of Jaromir Jagr, Tuomas Gronman, has spoken up about Jagr's behavior on Penguins. Back in 1997-98, Jagr was an alternate captain for Pittsburgh and was not gelling well with head coach Kevin Constantine.
Gronman revealed some shocking tales of how Jagr would act under Constantine.
Gronman also revealed how if Constantine would tell Jagr to wear a helmet, he would wear a helmet to team meetings out of defiance for his coach. Jagr would also wait in his car till he was late to team meetings, another act of defiance.
There are other stories of Jagr not listening to coaches like when he was in Russia and was rumored to have gotten into a physical altercation with his coach.
Jagr is clearly a very gifted and independent individual. He is still playing for the team he owns in Czechia. Last season he scored 14 points in 26 games for his team.
While these numbers are a far cry from his peak of 149 points in the NHL, it is still quite respectable considering how most hockey players could only dream of producing that much in their primes.
In owning his own team, Jagr is able to ensure that he does not get into any more altercations with his coaches and will have a relatively relaxed final few seasons playing hockey.
