MUST WATCH: David Savard Takes Onslaught of Pucks From Sabres
Sometimes being a defenseman in the National Hockey League is a painful and thankless job. Tonight, David Savard got a taste of that as he blocked several shots in a row trying to kill a penalty against the Buffalo Sabres.
Savard Does His Goalie Impression
There's a reason goalies wear all that extra gear. Pucks are hard and they come at you fast. Skater pads will take the edge off, but anyone who's ever blocked a shot in a rec league will tell you it still hurts a lot and those pucks are flying a lot slower than they do in the show. David Savard does not care apparently, as he showed a willingness to face shot after shot from the Buffalo Sabres.
You have to tip your cap to any player that is willing to put their body on the line like that. Even after he was clearly stung by the first block, he continued to battle, going on to save his goalie from the rubber. He even appeared to lose a skate blade on the play as he had to shuffle his way to the bench goalie style.
Maybe let the goalie do his job a little next time David.
