The Minnesota Wild are set to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight in Pittsburgh, in what would normally be a hum-drum Monday night game in December. However, tonight's will have a bit more meaning for Wild goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
Fleury was drafted by the Penguins first-overall back in 2003, and played the majority of his hall-of-fame-esque career there. With the speculation that Fleury might retire after this season is over, tonight would be his last game in Pittsburgh, the City that started his career and means so much to him.
While Fleury hasn't formally announced his retirement, many are expecting this to be his last game in Pittsburgh, and are criticizing the Wild for the decision not to start Fleury in what could be a farewell game. Wild Head Coach John Hynes has said that this was part of the initial plan.
The decision doesn't seem to be going across very well to hockey fans, as they took to social media to let the Wild know how they feel.
