After the Flames were heartbroken from the departure of Johnny Gaudreau, news went from bad to worse as Matthew Tkachuk has now appeared in trade rumours. Just under 24 hours after the Flames elected for team arbitration, it looks like the two will be separating for good.
The Flames filed for arbitration to buy them some time to negotiate a trade and not have to worry about teams offer-sheeting him.
According to Calgary Flames reporter Ryan Leslie and Dean Molberg:
Tkachuk is no longer happy in Calgary with the departure of his linemate
At the beginning of last season it was rumoured that Tkachuk was no longer happy in Calgary and wanted to be traded, but after producing over 100 points this past season, it seems like the Flames were hoping that was all in the past.
It will be interesting to see what direction the Flames will head in after this. They could either seek NHL players that can play now to fill the void and ''retool'' the roster, or seek prospects and picks and take the team in a rebuilding direction.
