The NHL has taken plenty of criticism over the past few years for failing to listen to fan feedback, but now, it appears times may be changing, as they have announced an exciting new broadcast to take place in 2023-24.
Red Zone style
According to a recent report, the NHL will adopt the NFL's 'Red Zone style' broadcast in 2023-24, where one program will cover every game happening around the league.
This will first take place on October 24 when all 32 teams are in action, hosted by John Buccigross titled Frozen Frenzy, while it may not work out, the NHL is clearly listening to feedback, and it could be a big win for the league.
The NHL will test-run their own version of NFL Redzone called Frozen Frenzy' on ESPN this season.
It will be on October 24th when all 32 teams play, and they will use it more often in the future if it goes well.
Hosted by John Buccigross, the studio will be bouncing around different games. Fans will see «every power play, every hit, every goal, every highlight.»
There will be as many as 11 games on at once that day, and Frozen Frenzy will aim to show every important moment.
Coming into the new age
In recent years, the NHL has tried several things to bring innovation into the sports presentation, as they were the test for the NFL's recent animated games while bringing new graphics to help new fans enjoy their introduction to the NHL.
"You will see every goal. You will see every power play. You will see every hit. We will just bounce around in what we're calling Frozen Frenzy." -Linda Schulz, ESPN Coordinating Producer.
If this does work, it appears the league is open to bringing it out more and more often, and given the popularity of Red Zone, this could be a major boost for NHL viewership and should be a fantastic new way to present the league to new fans and old.
