Ever since the trade back on February 26th 2018 that sent Ryan McDonagh to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the New York Rangers have not had a captain. When the Rangers traded away their former captain, it officially marked the rebuild of the organization, that went way quicker than anyone expected.

Some names have been tossed around over the last few years on who should be announced the next leader of the organization. The fan favourite being Chris Kreider who has been there the longest of any current Ranger, or the teams number one center in Mika Zibanejad.

However, neither are apparently getting to wear the C for this original 6 franchise.

According to NHL Insider Kevin Weekes, the next captain of the New York Rangers is expected to be named today and it will be defenceman Jacob Trouba!

Trouba has been with the Rangers for 3 years now after being traded from the Winnipeg Jets back on June 17 2019.

While the 28 year old is now a veteran in this league and has shown his value, whether that be with putting points on the board, or dropping some massive hits, he has shown he can lead a team into battle. But some fans do not seem too happy with this decision, they seem to all have been hoping for Kreider to be announced as the next captain.
