The Pittsburgh Penguins were a team plagued with injuries last season, only one player on the team managed to play in all 82 games and that was Evan Rodrigues. Despite all these injuries, the Penguins still managed to finish 3rd in the Metropolitan Division with 103 points.
One key player who was plagued with injuries was Jason Zucker, who only managed to get into half the games last year. Zucker who is on the final year of a 5 year $27,500,000 contract, only managed to score 8 goals and 17 points in 41 games.
After being a consistent 20+ goal scorer and 40+ point producer for the Minnesota Wild, Zucker's time in Pittsburgh has been a bit underwhelming. When the Penguins acquired him at the trade deadline back in 2020 when they traded away Calen Addison, Alex Galchenyuk and conditional round 1 pick in the 2021 draft (Carson Lambos), they hoped to get this 20 goal scoring player, which in his defence, he did score 6 goals and 12 points in 15 games after joining the Penguins. But since that season he had been consistently injured and the 29 year old has only played in 79/138 games, where he only produced 39 points in those 79 games.
Thats just simply not good enough.
Heading into this season though the Penguins are very happy to announce that Zucker is fully healthy and recovered from all his injuries.
Are we going to see the 20+ goal scorer return to form?
