Patrick Kane recently came out with a new statement regarding his future in the NHL. We know he had surgery after the conclusion of the season, but this makes this interesting.
Wow, pretty serious stuff there from the Blackhawks legend.
Kane was once one of, if not the best player in the NHL, so it's no surprise he's still a top player well into his 30s. While some have questioned his ability to keep up with the game in recent years, it looks like Kane is ready to put those doubts to rest.
With these recent comments, you have to wonder if Kane is considering returning to New York on a short-term deal.
The veteran winger left a lot of unfinished business on the table with an unceremonious playoff exit this year, and if he truly wants to prove that he's still a top player, what better place to do it than in New York?
Let's say the Rangers and Kane agree to a one-year deal worth $5 million. It would provide Kane with the opportunity to prove that he can still be an elite player if he's healthy, and would give New York some serious firepower for an affordable price. Both sides would likely be happy, and if all goes well, could even talk about another contract extension at the end of the year.
While we can't say for sure if Kane is close to a new contract, it sure feels like he wants to start focusing on next season. We're excited to see what this new version of Patrick Kane can do.
