The Colorado Avalanche have officially parted ways with one of their most promising up-and-coming prospects, as he leaves the organization to head overseas. This is a sizeable blow to the Avs.
Ranta Heads to Sweden
Avalanche Prospect Sampo Ranta has signed a two-year contract with MoDo of the SHL. The young Finnish forward heads there just after the completion of his entry-level contract with Colorado.
"I chose MoDo because it is a club with ambitions and a drive to achieve success. It is also a club with a lot of tradition and history. It felt like it suited me well, and I have heard very good things about MoDo and Örnsköldsvik from my Swedish friends."
He added, "My big goal is to help MoDo win many games and achieve success in the SHL. As a player, I am driven to take steps forward. The SHL is a very good league with great competition, and I think it will be a lot of fun."

Avs Prospect Pool Takes a Hit
The departure of Ranta is bad news for an already thin Colorado prospect pool. with some of their better prospects being traded away in recent years during the trade deadline, Ranta was one of the better prospects left in their pool, with NHL potential still there.
While his departure hurts Colorado, it will be great for MoDo, who has gained an exciting young player.
