The Washington Capitals have had a very dissapointing season. What began as a season plagued with injuries, looked to turning around when they had an amazing month of December, putting them back into playoff position in what looked like would be held for the remainder of the season.
But 2023 has not been too kind to the Capitals. Everything has dropped off since the start of the new year, and due to this, the Capitals became sellers for the Trade Deadline.
While they are not entering a rebuild, they are retooling to bring in a younger NHL ready roster, and a trade they made with the Maple Leafs is already looking to be paying off.
The Capitals traded a first round pick they received from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Dmitry Orlov, along with Erik Gustaffson to the Maple Leafs in exchange for Rasmus Sandin.
After scoring 20 points in just 52 games played with the Leafs this season, he has already scored 5 points in his first 2 games with Washington, becoming the first Washington Capitals defenceman to accomplish this.
Considering the highly skilled offensive defenceman this team has possessed, this is pretty impressive!
