There has been many discussions this season about the play of the Maple Leafs, and most of it has been negative, but the truth is, they've been missing goaltenders, defenceman and their star players have had a slow start and they're still sitting second place in the Atlantic Division.

With the Leafs best two-way defenceman Jake Muzzin being shut down for the season, their is a hole on the back end that Leafs General Manager Kyle Dubas has been looking to fill.

For awhile many believed that the Maple Leafs were the favourites to land the star defenceman Jacob Chychrun, who on a better team would be a much higher discussed defenceman as one of the best in the league, but spending his whole career on Arizona has kept him out of the spotlight. But we are now learning from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman that the Leafs have been in contract with the Coyotes over a defenceman, but not Chychrun.

The defenceman that Kyle Dubas is interested in is former 2nd round pick, who played for the Greyhounds in the OHL, Conor TImmins.

I had a couple people reach out to me and say they think Toronto is one of the team's that is interested

Timmins was a second round pick by the Colorado Avalanche back in 2017 and was traded with round 1 pick in the 2022 draft (Reid Schaefer) and conditional round 3 pick in the 2024 draft to Arizona Coyotes for Darcy Kuemper.

He has bounced between the NHL and AHL for the past couple seasons registering 7 assists in 41 games.

While their times did not overlap on the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds, we know that Kyle Dubas and Sheldon Keefe both love their Greyhound players.
