Jonathan Toews, three-time Stanley Cup Champion, Gold Medal winner in the World Juniors, Olympics, World Championship and World Cup, he has won every team trophy their is, winning is just in the guys DNA.
After missing the whole 2020-21 season with an undisclosed injury, Toews made a comeback last season, but it was not a 'Toews-like' season, registering only 12 goals and 37 points in 71 games.
This season though, Toews has shot out of a cannon and is on fire with something to prove. Through 9 games he has 5 goals and 2 assists, which puts him on pace for 45 goals and 63 points, over a full season, not bad for a 34 year old.
When the Blackhawks decided last season that the team was going to enter a rebuild, it didn't sit too well with long-time captain Jonathan Toews, and he had constant comments in the media that he was not a fan of the teams direction.
Toews is in the final year of his contract that has a cap hit of $10,500,000, and just like this partner Patrick Kane, they would both like to win another Stanley Cup before they retire. Both have started off the season very well, and with the Blackhawks wanting to lose this season for a better chance at Connor Bedard, trading both Toews and Kane would be the best option for the Blackhawks.
The team that is rumoured to be in on this Blackhawks captain is a team that just hired one of Toews' former teammates for a management position:
Mark Spector lists Jonathan Toews as a potential fit for the Edmonton Oilers.
-
He mentions the Oilers «need» for middle six depth, and Toews' long time teammate Duncan Keith now being apart of the front office as factors in making the two sides be interested in each other.
