RUMOUR: Elias Pettersson's Next Team May Already Be Known
We have a major development concerning Elias Pettersson's future to share with you.
New Top Contender to Land Pettersson
With only a year left on his current contract, Pettersson is becoming more and more involved in trade rumors.
The Canucks are struggling to field a competitive team, even with top talent such as Quinn Hughes and Pettersson.
Pettersson, who just had a 102-point breakout season, could be ready to play with a Stanley Cup contender. That's why he's been linked to the Boston Bruins, who are looking for a number-one center.
"Pettersson could serve as a viable Plan B for the Bruins, who are actively seeking a dynamic center presence following the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. While Lindholm remains their primary target, if the Bruins take a big swing, Pettersson's youthful potential and extended prime years could make him an appealing alternative choice for the team."
Pettersson's Dilemma
Pettersson had the first 100-point-plus season of his career. At his level, he should be in a position to win every year. Unfortunately, playing in Vancouver, he has only had a taste of playoff hockey during the bubble in 2020.
Wherever he signs, Pettersson is in a position to ask for a large contract and will certainly prioritize top teams.
"One thing I would say to Canucks fans is: don't take it as though he's not staying. I don't believe that's the case. Nothing in my conversation with him indicated that he's not going to stay there. But I think he wants to ensure that the team has the potential to win before committing to a long-term agreement."
