Earlier this morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs were concerned when Sebastian Aho inked a contract with Carolina. However, new information suggests there's no cause for alarm.
Is Nylander Contemplating a Pay Cut?
This morning, Sebastian Aho's eight-year, $78-million contract set a new standard, particularly for William Nylander. Nylander has shown superior offensive performance compared to Aho and offers equivalent value to his team.
This implies Nylander's fair market value could be close to a yearly $10-million, an amount that might be challenging for the Maple Leafs to shoulder. Nevertheless, recent reports hint that Nylander's contract may actually come in below Aho's.
Reports are indicating that Sebastian Aho's contract (8x9.75M) will be the very maximum for William Nylander.
While Nylander has out-performed Aho offensively, it appears he will settle at a number lower than Aho.
A Bargain in the Making for Nylander
This turn of events is favorable for the Leafs' administration. It now appears they may be able to secure Nylander's services long-term at a more manageable cost.
