NHL players are no stranger to drama on and off the ice, and now, we've got a race car driver and a veteran NHLer involved in a shocking incident.
A disturbing incident
According to Canadian race car driver Zach Claman DeMelo on Instagram, he was involved in a disturbing altercation with NHL veteran Daniel Sprong, and detailed in on his Instagram story.
During Grand Prix weekend I was at a night club with @detroitredwings @nhl player @sprong11. He grabbed my neck and pinned me on a wall, we were separated during that scuffle. After when I had believed the situation was over Daniel came back and sucker punched me in the face while I was defenceless.. The photos in the slide before is the after math of the incident. The dental work needed was brutal and I'm still not finished. I also sustained a concussion that l've been dealing with over the past few weeks.
Discipline incoming?
Obviously this is just one side of the story, but from this side, it's tough to see how Sprong can justify his actions, as this is a dreadful thing to be involved in, especially with another athlete.
Over the next few days and weeks we will no doubt get clarification on what exactly happened, but right now, it's another bad look for the NHL and Sprong, who should know better at his age.
