Four months ago, New York Rangers skills coach Christian Hmura fired shots at hockey influencer Pavel Barber after Barber showed off a deceptive skill move. The move fakes a toe drag which leads to the goaltender thinking there is a shot coming and then deceptively playing the puck off of a skate to a trailing forward.
Hmura was not impressed by stating the following:
However, in the Blue Jackets' second game of the season, centerman Alexandre Texier pulled the move off alongside Patrik Laine. Barber was quick to point this out.
While some may argue that it is not much as Laine was not able to score, that is not the point of the move. The point is to create a better shooting opportunity which Texier did masterfully.
While Laine did not score on this play, the Blue Jackets still secured a 5-3 victory.
Maybe it is time we see coaches approach the game with a more open mindset.
