The Calgary Flames are actively on the trade market this season, looking to sell to the highest bidders in an attempt to start their rebuild and get long-term assets for the gaggle of UFAs they have on their roster.
Now, they could be forced to speed up this process in order to find a replacement for goaltender Jakob Markstrom, who was injured today during practice.
It was also reported that the injury was pretty gruesome, with blood pouring from Markstrom's hand as he skated off the ice.
With their starting goaltender appearing to be out for a little bit of time, the question becomes whether or not Calgary will look to make a trade to shore up their goaltending.
The Calgary Flames, despite already trading away Nikita Zadorov and Tyler Toffoli, still have assets that they are actively shopping on the trade market. Both Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin have been heavily rumoured as potential trade targets.
The biggest question becomes if the Flames will switch their plans of trading for long-term assets like picks and prospects for a more short-term plan to replace Markstrom while he is injured. They need to be careful not to make a shortsighted decision.
