Today the Detroit Red Wings suffered an important loss during their Global Series game.

During the second period of the Global Series matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs chaos erupted. A mad dash to play some defense led to a scary injury for a Red Wings defenseman.

Walman loses his footing and crashes into the net, hurt on the play. Needed to be helped off the ice...scary moment. Hope he's okay. #LGRW

Jake Walman has been one of the most important defensemen for the Red Wings during this season. In 17 games this season Walman has 7 points which puts him on pace for a career high of 33. The mobile defenseman will now likely miss some time.

With the Walman injury, the Red Wings spent the rest of the game down a defenseman. They would end up letting a 2 goal lead slip away and lose 3-2 to the Maple Leafs.

The Red Wings now fall a point behind the Maple Leafs and have an 8-6-3 record. With Walman out the Red Wings will need to find a replacement to take on his minutes in the interim. Top prospect Simon Edvinsson could be a prime candidate to get some games in Walman's absence.
