Star Defenseman Rips Gary Bettman Apart Publicly
This star defenseman took to the media to share his thoughts on the NHL's recent decisions, and he didn't hold back.
Dumba Rips League Apart for Pride Tape Debacle
Matt Dumba recently spoke to the media about the NHL's recent reversal of its Pride Tape ban. He had questions about why the ban was even put in place in the first place, and who takes accountability for these mistakes.
"Why is that even a thing?" he told The Athletic's Eric Stephens. "Why did they have to do that in the first place? You'll never get the answers from them. You'll never get the answers for that. That's just something I've come to understand. They don't have answers for a lot of things that they do. They follow and try to save face."
The decision came just 3 days after Dumba's teammate, Travis Dermott, decided to go against the ban and put pride tape on his stick. Clearly, Dumba has a point in that the NHL seems to be flying by the seat of its pants on big decisions like this.
Dermott Happy with NHL Decision to Reverse Course
Travis Dermott also spoke to the media regarding the decision to reverse course and called it a major win for the players.
"It's just given the players their voice back," he said, per Stephens. "If everyone wants to wear it, if one guy wants to wear it - no one is going to be forced to wear it - but now just having that voice, I think, really speaks volumes into what the league thinks of us, what the league thinks of the community, and really backs up their line that hockey is for everyone."
Dermott has been credited with being the one who created the reversal, putting potentially his career on the line to stand up for what he believes in.
Pride Tape is back because Travis Dermott, a completely expendable defenceman on a one-year deal just above the league minimum, had the balls to stand up for his convictions at what could have been at a cost to his career.
As seen on The Score - "Dumba rips NHL over Pride tape debacle: 'They follow and try to save face'"
