Star Winger Opens up about his Future with the Bruins
With the unstable roster composition in Boston, this star forward opened up on his future with the club.
Debrusk's Future with the Bruins
At a recent 3v3 hockey tournament, DeBrusk opened up about his desire to stay with the Bruins despite the changes to the club's roster this offseason.
"I'm hoping to stay [with the Boston Bruins]. It's the only team that I know and the team that I grew up with. Hopefully, it goes in that direction, and we'll see how it goes.
DeBrusk's contract is set to expire after this upcoming season. The young forward is hoping that his agent and the club can get an extension done before the end of the year.
"That's why I have an agent, and I told him I wanted to stay out of this one, and in time, it'll be nice when it all gets done."
The Opportunity Awaits
With the retirement of Bergeron and Krejci, and the loss of Tyler Bertuzzi, Taylor Hall, and Nick Foligno, there is a huge opportunity for DeBrusk to showcase his scoring and leadership ability in his contract year.
While he had a career season last year, putting up a career-high 50 points in 64 games, he hopes to build on this and stay away from injury.
"Last year when I got injured in the Winter Classic. I was just really starting to come into my game, so it made me a little bit angry because I thought I was going to go on kind of a heater there, which probably would have ended up being 30 or 35 [goals]." DeBrusk said, "If I stay healthy, I think I can score 30 this season."
Although many expect the Bruins to be in rebuild mode this year, DeBrusk remains confident in his team.
