During a summer training session with the Kazan Ak Bars children's and youth sports school, 16-year-old Savva Skotnikov, a goaltender, collapsed on the ice. After being rushed to a hospital, Skotnikov was diagnosed with a ruptured aneurysm. The 16-year-old underwent successful surgery following the rupture of a congenital cerebral aneurysm and appears to be recovering nicely.
Savva comes from a hockey family, and his older brother won the Gagarin Cup last year as a goalie for CSKA.
Skotnikov's club released the following statement regarding his health, with the promise to provide more updates once they were available.
According to the team, Skotnikov has yet to regain consciousness.
We're praying for a speedy recovery for Savva.
